West Morris Street Free Methodist Church (dubbed “WEMO” by our youth) is a diverse and vibrant congregation. We are located near downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, along West Morris Street. WEMO’s served West Indy for 94 years.
Are we contemporary? Yes. Are we traditional? Yes. WEMO is a blended congregation of younger and older people who follow Jesus, cross borders, and love neighbors. Folks particiapte in WEMO from all across the metropolitan area as well as within the West Indianapolis neighborhoods. It’s a great place to belong and grow.

Faith in this community can sometimes be interesting. There is such a wide rang of views that sometimes lesving you wondering where did this view come from. This is a community that struggles, and really needs a church to call home. I would like to see us as a church go out into the community and do something that could make a difference, such as (clean up a yard of an old or handycap person) I think we need to go to them. Serve without even being ask. lets show them that we care about this area and them. If we are to make a difference, than its going to take more than a committe it will take a church. Brothers and Sisters in Christ.working togather, wanting to make a difference.
“If we are to make a difference, it’s going to take more than a committee; it will take a church.” That’s the Spirit in action, Anna.
In what ways do you see the church (WEMO) currently acting/serving in outreaching care for West Indianapolis neighbors–children, youth, adults?
To what extent is a shift from church-site-based ministries to community-based acts of service and care needed?

Anna, when I first attended, I was told most members were not from this community. I am now ready to change my membership from Avon to West Morris St. Anna, can you tell me why this is? Also, are there others in the church who share your cocerns about our community? and.. of those others are there any willing to make a SACRIFICE of their time to think this issue out and allow the Lord to work through our church to reach our community? I love being a member of this church because we are a family.
